The first step of installing a ceiling fan is to know the colors as noted above. In the switch box. Once the power is off read the instruction manual that came with the fan so you install everything correctly. To connect ceiling fan wires first turn the power off from the circuit breaker box so you don t electrocute yourself.

This can create some confusion when it comes to which wires to connect. Start by turning off the power at the mains or circuit breaker box. Connect black fan wire to the black ceiling wire. To do this method the wire from your wall circuit to your light has to have 3 wires.

Ceiling fans have different colored wires coming from the motor that don t quite match the household circuit wires colors. The source is at the switches and the input of each is spliced to the black source wire with a wire nut. That also includes ceiling fan speed wire colors.
