It cost less than half the cost of rubber. When using cement it tends to block water from under the tile not allowing proper drainage thus causing water to stand and eventually leaks and or rots. Clay cement mortar pressure sensitive adhesive membrane foam and specialty metal closures are often used with tile. With a cant strip or raised fascia a beveled wood or foam antiponding strip is required to prevent ponding of water along the eaves figure 2 29 below.
